Evan Mobley of the Cleveland Cavaliers won the Defensive Player of the Year (DPOY) award from 2024 to 2025.

The NBA secretariat said on the 25th that Mobley won the Defender of the Year Award and will receive the Hakeem Olajuwon Trophy, which is given to the winner.

This is the first time Mobley has won the Defensive Player of the Year award in his fourth season since his debut. Notably, Mobley became the fifth 23-year-old player to win the Defensive Player of the Year award after Alvin Robertson (1985-1986), Dwight Howard (2008-2009), Kawhi Leonard (2014-2015), and Jaren Jackson Jr. (2022-2023).

The award, which is given annually from the 1982-1983 season, is selected by a vote of 100 media panel members recommended by NBA coaches. Every received 285 points, including 35 first-place votes, 30 second-place votes, and 25 third-place votes, beating Dyson Daniels (Atlanta Hawks) with 197 points and Draymond Green (Golden State Warriors) with 154.

Defensive Player of the Year award was expected to be contested as Victor Wembanyama (San Antonio Spurs), the most promising candidate, was out for the season. Mobley was also honored with the award.

Mobley ranked sixth in the NBA (1.59) and 13th in defensive rebound (7.0) in this season. Thanks to Mobley, he also ranked eighth in the NBA (111.8) and third in the field-fighting ratio (45.8%) in the defensive rating. When Mobley was in the court, he ranked second overall in the defensive rating with 108.6.

Mobley, who showed off his defensive skills by selecting the Eastern Conference Defensive Player of the Month twice in December last year and February this year, also showed compliance in offense. He played an average of 30.5 minutes in 71 games and averaged 18,5 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 3.2 assists. 바카라
